The Problem Being Addressed
Young entrepreneurs are widely encouraged to start a business but rarely taught to validate demand, price against real input volatility, keep records that a lender would accept, or reach a customer at a cost the business can sustain. The Lab is designed around the actual conditions of trading in Rivers State rather than an imported accelerator template.
Target Participants
Unemployed young people seeking a livelihood route
Aspiring entrepreneurs with an early idea
Early-stage business owners seeking to stabilise and grow
Participants able to commit to the full six-to-eight-week cycle
Location and duration
Proposed six-to-eight-week accelerator delivered in Port Harcourt, with a post-programme mentorship follow-up.
Programme Architecture
Modules address the practical disciplines that determine whether a micro-enterprise survives its first year.
Module 01
Moving founders past hypothetical demand. Field interviews, minimum viable prototype iteration, and locating the buyer who will actually pay.
Module 02
Segregation of personal and business capital, day-to-day cash-flow ledgering, digital payment and audit-ready records tailored to micro-enterprises.
Module 03
Protecting margins against currency fluctuation and input-cost volatility. Calculating true unit economics, direct labour costs, break-even thresholds and healthy customer-acquisition costs.
Module 04
Navigating distribution bottlenecks across the Niger Delta. Low-budget digital advertising, WhatsApp commerce, third-party dispatch and last-mile delivery.
Module 05
Constructing transparent, minute-investment thesis decks. Learning evidence-based blended-finance policies, tender-fund compliance, reporting and safeguarding standards.
Module 06
We invite corporate and allied technical partners to sponsor localised module tracks, provide specialised toolkits, and nominate executives as guest faculty.
Delivery Sequence
A defined progression from new initiative to validated business and ongoing enterprise support.
Phase 01
Competitive merit-based intake for applications. Intake focused on youth-defined youth validation, product, community focus, or trade capabilities in Rivers State.
Phase 02
Six to eight weeks of intensive weekend sessions and week-day workshops, live one-to-one clinics, manufacturing and on-the-ground contact acquisition sprints.
Phase 03
Participants pitch to an independent grant committee comprised of FDI leads, corporate CSR delegates and vetted independent investors.
Phase 04
Post-accelerator support including monthly governance checks, seed-grant milestone verification, supplier introductions and where relevant technical advisory services.
Expected Outcomes
Participants can present validated evidence of real customer demand
Participants maintain separated, audit-ready business records
Participants can explain their unit economics and break-even point
Participants leave with a named mentor and a documented six-month follow-up plan

Clarifications
Answers to the questions most often raised by participants, schools and prospective partners.
Any seed capital is intended as a non-dilutive catalytic grant, disbursed against verified milestones. No equity or interest is contemplated. All disbursement figures remain unpublished until secured and approved.
Applicants must be young founders aged 18 to 35 operating within Rivers State, with priority emphasis on Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor. The enterprise must have progressed beyond a conceptual ideation stage.
Corporate executives, experienced accountants, legal practitioners and established merchants can apply via the Get Involved channel. Mentors commit to a short structured session per month over a six-month follow-up window.
FDI operates a transparent dual-signatory seed-disbursement escrow. Corporate partners receive detailed quarterly burn-rate reconciliations, audited by independent accountants, along with direct beneficiary impact monitoring.
