The Problem Being Addressed
Communities facing social tension, exclusion or post-election distrust rarely lack opinions — they lack a neutral, well-facilitated setting in which those opinions can be said aloud without cost, heard accurately, and converted into a specific, agreed next action. Safe Spaces Dialogues is designed to create exactly that setting, with qualified referral support standing behind it.
Target Participants
Young people experiencing exclusion or social pressure
Community stakeholders, traditional and faith representatives
Local associations, women’s groups and youth councils
Participants requiring confidential psychosocial or legal referral
Location and duration
Proposed rolling dialogue series across Rivers State LGAs, each circle followed by a documented action record and referral follow-up.
Programme Architecture
Every session operates within an uncompromising framework of participant safety, dignity and measurable follow-through.
Pillar 01
Trained and moderated circles employ restorative-circle methods to equalise power dynamics between elders, security liaisons, women and young participants. Maximum 25 participants per circle.
Pillar 02
Engaging vulnerable youth, out-of-school youths, local traditional representatives, women’s associations and traditional authority councils across target LGAs.
Pillar 03
Explicit indemnity guidelines ensure disclosure of past hardships, mental-health struggles, or conflict-mitigation cannot trigger reprisal or weaponised legal escalation.
Pillar 04
Immediate, dignified linkage to licensed clinical psychologists, addiction-recovery allies, pro-bono defence, and structured Rivers State Ethics Desks.
Delivery Sequence
Sessions are tailored to address acute socio-economic pressure points with clinical sensitivity and local cultural contextualisation.
Theme 01
Unpacking systemic disenfranchisement among young people across coastal and urban Rivers State, identifying constructive avenues for budget participation, public hearings and civic accountability without fear of political reprisal.
Theme 02
De-stigmatising depression, trauma, anxiety and grief in a place where psychological distress is often brushed aside. Safe, peer-to-peer sharing guided by trauma-counsellors and normalising help-seeking behaviour.
Theme 03
Moving away from punitive, criminalising narratives surrounding youth drug dependency. Focuses on harm reduction, family reintegration, vocational re-skilling, and voluntary admission into medical rehabilitation streams.
Theme 04
Empowering women and girls through safe disclosure circles, bystander-intervention training, and coordinated reporting pathways with vetted legal aid and frontline healthcare advocates.
Theme 05
Mending partisan fractures between community factions post-general elections. Restoring collaborative communal priorities over partisan, marked governance loyalties.
Expected Outcomes
Each circle produces a documented, agreed community action record
Participants requiring specialist support receive a confidential, tracked referral
Cross-generational participation is evidenced in every circle’s attendance record
Follow-up sessions verify whether agreed actions were actually carried out

Clarifications
Answers to the questions most often raised by participants, schools and prospective partners.
Absolutely not. FDI maintains rigorous, statutorily audited political neutrality. No political branding, partisan insignia, or politicised sloganeering is allowed on any grounds.
A strict Chatham House rule applies. Recording devices are prohibited. Disclosure of past hardship, mental-health struggle or conflict-mitigation cannot trigger reprisal or weaponised legal escalation.
No. Community dialogues are provided without charge to participating communities. [CONFIRM FUNDING ARRANGEMENT BEFORE PUBLICATION.]
Participants requiring professional help are linked confidentially to vetted clinical, legal or psychosocial partners. Agreed community actions are recorded and revisited at a follow-up circle.
